I installed Globalsight 8.6.7 according to this official tutorial: https://www.globalsight.com/wiki/index.php/Installing_GlobalSight_on_Ubuntu
But the daemon service cannot start. In the installation log, I see that:
/home/jboss/GlobalSight/jboss/util/bin/InstallApp-NT.sh: 5: /home/jboss/GlobalSight/jboss/util/bin/InstallApp-NT.sh: update-rc.d: not found
/home/jboss/GlobalSight/jboss/util/bin/InstallApp-NT.sh: 7: /home/jboss/GlobalSight/jboss/util/bin/InstallApp-NT.sh: update-rc.d: not found

I think that's because Ubuntu 16.04 newly adopts systemctl mechanism. Then how to make it?

Hi Vincent

The Install page states that an install on Ubuntu 16 is not recommended as GlobalSight is not designed to run on systemd out of the box.

You may find this link useful as a way to run jboss under Systemd, as 8.6.7 runs on jboss AS 7.2

Thank you for tip. I even neglect the warning in the tutorial. I will switch back to Ubuntu 14.04.

I tried today in Ubuntu 14.04. The same error:

/home/jboss/GlobalSight/jboss/util/bin/InstallApp-NT.sh: 5: /home/jboss/GlobalSight/jboss/util/bin/InstallApp-NT.sh: update-rc.d: not found
/home/jboss/GlobalSight/jboss/util/bin/InstallApp-NT.sh: 7: /home/jboss/GlobalSight/jboss/util/bin/InstallApp-NT.sh: update-rc.d: not found

Why?

Can you confirm if there is a globalsight service file in:
/etc/init.d/globalsight

then run:

sudo update-rc.d globalsight defaults

Service should start on boot.
